Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has not even been released in theaters yet, but 20th Century Fox has already decided to have Matt Reeves return to direct a third installment to the science fiction thriller franchise.
20th Century Fox executives were very satisfied with their latest screening of Reeves’ Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, leading them to sign Reeves on to be the director once more. In addition, Reeves will be penning the script for the third film with Matt Bomback, who helped write the sequel. After Reeves finishes up Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, it is expected that he will immediately begin working on the third film.
The Planet of the Apes series was rebooted in 2011 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which was directed by Rupert Wyatt. The science fiction thriller received many positive reviews from critics and went on to gross $482 million worldwide.
The sequel is set to hit the silver screen on July 11, 2014. The film will focus on intelligent ape Caesar and his growing army of apes in their war against humanity. It stars Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, and Jason Clarke.
No storyline details or release date have been announced yet for the third film.
