From writer/director Tina Gordon Chism (writer of “ATL” and “Drumline”) and producer Tyler Perry, comes a hilarious directorial debut that is better than expected. In his first leading role, Craig Robinson (“Pineapple Express”) plays Wade Walker – an aspiring child psychologist who tries to fit into his girlfriend’s family. The beautiful Kerry Washington (“Django Unchained”) plays Grace Peeples, who has kept Wade a secret to her interesting family members. The film is a laugh-out-loud funny family comedy that centers on the misadventures that occur while Wade looks for the right time to propose to Grace.
David Alan Grier (“Jumanji”) plays the father Peeples and is one of the best characters in the film by far. Other great comedic performances include Golden Globe winner S. Epatha Merkerson (“Law & Order”) and Malcolm Barrett (“The Hurt Locker”). Melvin Van Peebles also appears as Grandpa Peeples – making a full circle of an all-star cast perfectly fitting into the simple, funny experience. The entire theater will be roaring with laughter to the point of some of the dialogue impossible to hear – over and over (all in a good way).
Don’t judge the film by its trailer, it doesn’t do it justice. “Peeples” is a film worth seeing and enjoying in a theater, plus the cost of admission.
“Peeples” is now playing in theaters.
