Actor Nicolas Cage is set to star in satirical comedy Army of One, the story of a man who goes on a hunt to capture Osama Bin Laden all by himself.
Larry Charles (Borat, The Dictator, and Bruno) is directing the Condé Nast Entertainment and Endgame Entertainment production, which is semi-scripted and loosely based on Chris Heath’s 2010 GQ magazine article. Cage will take on the lead role based on Gary Faulkner, a Colorado construction worker who “picked up a pistol and a samurai sword to sneak across the Pakistan border to hunt down Osama Bin Laden.”
Bob and Harvey Weinstein acquired North American rights to Army of One for their TWC-Dimension label.
“For many years I’ve been a fan of Larry Charles, from his work on Seinfeld to Borat and Bruno and, most recently, The Dictator,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Co.
The film, scripted by Scott Rothman and Rajiv Joseph (Draft Day), will begin shooting by the end of March, and will likely hit theaters at the end of the year.
