Naomi Watts (43) will star as the late Princess Diana in the upcoming biopic Caught in Flight. The actress was spotted for the first time dressed in the likeness of the former princess. The Australian actress is best known for starring in the films Mullholland Drive, 21 Grams and King Kong.
Caught in Flight is said to focus on Diana’s last two years, including her relationships with heart surgeon Dr Hasnat Khan and Dodi Fayed. The movie will also include the 1997 Parisian car crash that took her like at 36 years old.
Watts took the leading role after Jessica Chastain (The Help) had to drop out of the film. German director Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall) will be the man behind the lens.
“It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role – Princess Diana was loved across the world, and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen,” said Watts after taking the role. ‘’She is a part of our history, an incredible woman and fascinating but a tragic ending.”
Caught in Flight is scheduled to be released in theaters in 2013.
