‘Mr. Robot’ Star Rami Malek To Portray Freddie Mercury In Queen Biopic

Bryan Singer to direct the Queen film, Bohemian Rhapsody.

Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek is set to play Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic, titled Bohemian Rhapsody.

Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects, X-Men), who is in talks to direct, confirmed the news on his Instagram page, with the caption, “Looking forward to @ramimalek @whoismrrobot playing #Freddie.”

New Regency and 20th Century Fox are teaming up to co-produce the film, with Graham King producing as well. The Theory of Everything screenwriter Anthony McCarten is on board to pen the film.

Sacha Baron Cohen was previously attached to portray Mercury in the biopic before a fall-out due to artistic differences.

Mercury, born in 1946, formed Queens with Brian May and Roger Taylor in 1970. Their hits included “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Are the Champions,” and “Somebody to Love.” Mercury died in 1991 from complications due to AIDS. He was 45.
