‘Mr. Peabody & Sherman’ Top Dog at the Box Office

“Mr. Peabody & Sherman” dominated the box office this weekend, beating”300″ and “Need For Speed”  to earn the number one spot.

After opening in second last week, “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” earned $21.2 million in ticket sales over the weekend. The film knocked “300: Rise of an Empire” down to place, where it collected $19.1 million. Aaron Paul’s “Need for Speed,” which debuted this weekend, came in third place after generating only $17.8 million.  It was originally forecast to place first with $25 million.

“Mr. Peabody & Sherman,” which features the talking dog Mr. Peabody and his adopted boy, Sherman,  can attribute it’s success to young audience members being on vacation for spring break.  Next week the film will go head-to-head against Disney’s upcoming film “Muppets: Most Wanted”.

Below are the box office results for the weekend of Friday, March 14 thru Sunday, March 16:

  1. “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” — $21.2 million
  2. “300: Rise of an Empire” — $19.1 million
  3. “Need for Speed” — $17.81 million
  4. “Non-Stop” — $10.6 million
  5. “Tyler Perry’s The Single Moms Club” — $8.3 million
