Michael Fassbender Rumored for ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’
Star Wars: Episode VII director J.J. Abrams is reportedly interested in casting X-Men star Michael Fassbender for an unspecified role in the forthcoming Star Wars film.
Abrams is interested in casting Michael Fassbender to possibly play a major role in Star Wars: Episode VII. In addition, it is rumored that Abrams is interested in casting Girls star Adam Driver and Hugo Weaving. Currently no information has been released on which characters Fassbender, Driver and Hugo could portray in the film. The direction of the film is still under debate since filmmakers have yet to decided which characters the film should emphasize the most.
Episode VII writer Michael Arndt parted ways from the film last fall due to the conflict of the characters he wanted to focus on in the script. Arndt wanted Star Wars: Episode VII to focus on the offspring of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), but director J.J. Abrams has a different vision. Arndt’s script would of still had the original trilogy’s heroes take on supporting roles in Episode VII. Abrams, however, wants Episode VII to take on the classic approach with the original Star Wars characters, and give fans one more chance to enjoy them before the Star Wars franchise focuses on a new generation.
Since Abrams is currently overhauling the script, previous actors who auditioned a few months ago when Arndt was writing the script, may or may not fit the roles for Epiosde VII at this moment. While the new script is taking shape, sources say Abrams is meeting with “everyone.” Currently Abrams and Lucasfilm are searching for a young mixed race or black female actress in her twenties to possibly play the rumored granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi. No official casting has been released.
Star Wars: Episode VII is planned for a 2015 release.
