MGM Says ‘Spectre’ Is Running Over Budget

The latest 007 film is apparently way over budget and MGM Studios allegedly fought to cut costs down for Spectre.

According to recent leaks caused by the massive hack at Sony Studios, e-mails sent in early November from MGM president Jonathan Glickman reveals that Spectre‘s budget “sits in the mid $300Ms.” Glickman insisted that the studio has to drastically cut back to $250 million for the new 007 film.

Glickman made a few comments in order to cut budget costs suggesting: a nighttime scene that is supposed to be filmed in a villa in Rome can be filmed in London instead. An action-packed scene on a train could use three carriages instead of four. Eliminate a dramatic finale in the rain to save costs on visual and special effects. Since a filming location will take place in Mexico, the MGM President also suggested that if the film showed “the more modern aspects” of Mexico the studio could earn extra $6 million more, because it will maximize “the Mexican incentive.”

“We recognize that this movie needs to build on the past few films – and there are expectations we must meet for the audience. Still, we must find further cuts,” Glickman says. “This is not about ‘nickel and diming’ the production.”

Barbara Broccoli, a producer for Spectre, fired back at MGM’s President, saying she “cannot find the cemetery or villa in the UK” and refuses to cut down the number carriages for the train scene. Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal added some input and directly replied back to Glickman, saying: “It’s insane and you know with no script this movie is gonna go overbudget.”

The hacked e-mails also revealed that the shooting period already costs $50 million more than the previous 007 film, Skyfall.
