After an on-set accident back in March that injured the franchise’s star Dylan O’Brien, the release date of Maze Runner: The Death Cure has been pushed back nearly a year, from Feb. 17, 2017 to Jan. 12, 2018.
20th Century Fox revealed this week that completion of principal photography for the final installment of the Maze Runner trilogy has been delayed a second time to allow O’Brien to fully recover. The studio did not state when production would resume.
The details of O’Brien’s accident are unclear. When the accident occurred, 20th Century Fox released this statement:
Dylan O’Brien was injured yesterday while filming ‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ in Vancouver, Canada… He was immediately transferred to a local hospital for observation and treatment. Production on the film will be shut down while he recovers. Our thoughts go out to Dylan for a full and speedy recovery.
The Maze Runner trilogy is based off of the book series by James Dasher. Wes Ball is directing The Death Cure, which will also star Kaya Scodalerio, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Rosa Salazar, Ki Hong Lee, and Dexter Darden alongside O’Brien.
