Matthew McConaughey To Teach Film Class At University of Texas

Alright, alright, alright!

The University of Texas at Austin announced Thursday (June 30^th) that Oscar award winner and alumnus Matthew McConaughey will be returning to his old stomping grounds to co-teach an advanced filmmaking class.

“He’s in the movies. He’s on the field. Now, Matthew McConaughey is in the classroom,” UT Austin wrote in a video that introduced the school’s new professor.

The course, which is to be capped at 30 students, is titled “Advanced Producing: Script to Screen”- with the primary professor being Scott Rice. However, McConaughey and Gary Ross (director of The Hunger Games) will lend a hand in instructing the course. The pair will take students behind their newest film, Free State of Jones, which was written and directed by Ross and starring McConaughey.

The course description reads:

“Script to Screen” takes students behind the scenes of the 2016 “Free State of Jones” written and directed by Gary Ross (“The Hunger Games”) and starring Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey (“Interstellar”). By studying the movie’s source material, script, shot lists, storyboards, shooting schedules, VFX, final cut and even exclusive behind the scenes footage, students will garner insight into the production of a major Hollywood feature.” 

McConaughey graduated from UT’s College of Communication back in 1993, getting his degree in radio, television and film. He frequently returns to campus for the Longhorns football games.
