The iconic romantic thriller The Bodyguard that originally starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner will be remade by Matthew López at Warner Bros.

This remake will be inspired by the 1992 box-office hit that grossed $411 million in ticket sales. The soundtrack is ranked as one of the best soundtracks of all time with 12.1 million copies of the album sold. Also songs including “I’m Every Woman”, “I Have Nothing” and the legendary “I Will Always Love You” hit Billboard’s hot 100 during this time.
The Production Team for ‘The Bodyguard’ Remake
Tony Nominee Matthew López will be hired to write the reimagined film reported by Variety. His award nominated playwright, The Inheritance premiered at London’s Young Vic in 2018. It has been praised as “the most important American play of the century.” Therefore, nothing short of an outstanding rewrite is expected by López. Additionally, he is currently co-writing a musical adaptation for Some Like It Hot.
Lawrence Kasdan of Kasdan Pictures and Dan Lin are set to produce the new film. Alongside Jonathan Eirich of Rideback as well. Rideback’s Nick Reynolds will also serve as executive producer for the project. Kasdan performed both duties as writer and produce for the original. Although he will only return as a producer for this new version. Moreover, Lin has been with the property since 2011.
With the remake still in the early stages of development, castings for roles have yet to be made. Twitter users have voiced their opinions about who would give Houston’s lead role justice. Some theories suggest that Doja Cat, Camilla Cabello, Rihanna and Adele are the best options. Additional suggestions for the cast include Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Channing Tatum and Cardi B.
