Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Hits $700M Milestone
Disney-Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy has surpassed $700 million at the worldwide box office after it opened in China last weekend.
Domestically, the action-adventure film has grossed a grand total of $326.7 million, and $378.4 million internationally. It has become the sixth highest worldwide grosser for this year, following after Paramount Pictures’ Transformers: Age of Extinction with $1.08 billion, Disney’s Maleficent with $757 million, Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past with $746 million, Disney-Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier with $714 million and Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with $709 million.
In addition, the sci-fi action flick, directed by James Gunn, is the fourth Marvel film to hit this milestone, landing behind Marvel’s The Avengers, Iron Man 3, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which is also from Disney.
The film has broken countless amounts of records, from being the best August debut with $94.3 million to becoming Marvel’s 10th consecutive No. 1 opening.
After debuting in China on October 10th, Guardians has gathered $43.4 million since then. The film is set to debut in Italy on October 22nd.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is expected to release July 28, 2017, with James Gunn to return as director.
