Lawless is already number one at the box office, opening in theaters nationwide on Wedesday.
Just in time for Labor Day weekend, Lawlessdebuted at number one in theaters yesterday making $1.1 million at the box office. The Prohibition-era film beat The Expandables 2 which had been number one for the past two weeks straight.
“What usually happens for a Wednesday opening is that you can get around 12.5 times that number for the 6 days Wednesday through Monday which would put us at $13.5M,” a Weinstein exec mentioned.
The movie is set in depression-era Franklin County, Virginia, where a bootlegging gang is threatened by a new deputy and other authorities who want a cut of their profits.
The movie is based on the 2008 novel The Wettest County in the World and stars Shia LaBeouf , Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain.
