‘La La Land’ Leads BAFTA Film Nominations With 11

The British Academy Film Award nominations are out and as expected La La Land leads the pack with 11 nominations. The Hollywood musical, which goes wide in the US and opens in the UK this Friday, is up for best film, while stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are up for best actor and actress.

British actors picking up nominations include Emily Blunt (The Girl on the Train), Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge) and Hugh Grant (Florence Foster Jenkins).

When the Houston Film Critics Society made its selections for best actor, the critics group included Jake Gyllenhaal’s performance from Nocturnal Animals. The BAFTA reciprocated this nomination by nominating him as well as supporting star Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who won a Golden Globe for her performance – a sign of things to come at the Oscars?). Surprisingly, Denzel Washington is no where to be found in the best actor race for his performance in Fences.

While La La Land leads all films in nominations, not far behind is Arrival and Nocturnal Animals with nine nominations apiece.
