Kristin Chenoweth: Put Me in ‘Wicked’ Movie
Last month, Universal Pictures revealed that the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked will be hitting theaters in 2019.
Kristin Chenoweth, who originated the role of Glinda the Good Witch on Broadway and was nominated for a Tony Award, told People that she wants to be in the movie.
“I know there’s been news of the movie, and I would love to be in it in any capacity,” the actress said. “Maybe I’ll play a munchkin this time.”
It is unlikely that Chenoweth, 47, would be able to reprise her role of Glinda for the film, considering Glinda is a college student in the musical. Chenoweth added that she thinks she and fellow original Wicked Broadway cast member Idina Menzel “left their mark on their roles and want to leave it there.”
Chenoweth previously shared with VH1 who she thinks should tackle the roles of Glinda and the Wicked Witch of the West on the big screen. “For someone in their 20s, I would go for Dove Cameron [as Glinda] and Lea Michele [as Elphaba]. Someone in their 30s, I would go with Beth Behrs [as Glinda] and maybe Zooey Deschanel [as Elphaba].”
Chenoweth will be seen in NBC’s live television production of Hairspray! this December and will also appear on ABC’s Match Game this summer.
