Katherine Waterston Joins cast of ‘Harry Potter’ Spin-off ‘Fantastic Beasts’
Last week, Eddie Redmayne officially joined the cast of the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Today Warner Bros. announced that Katherine Waterston will star alongside him.
Waterston, known for her role in 2014’s Inherent Vice, will play a witch named Tina, short for Porpentina. Her character meets Newt Scamander (Redmayne) while he is visiting New York City as he researches different magical creatures.
“Katherine Waterston is a rising star, who was a revelation in our film Inherent Vice, earning the praise of both critics and audiences,” Warner Bros.’ president of creative development and worldwide production Greg Silverman said in a statement. “We are thrilled to have her back in the Warner Bros. family, especially in one of our most anticipated titles for 2016, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”
The studio is still looking to cast two major roles: Tina’s sister Queenie and Scamander’s competitor Jacob.
David Yates is directing the project and J.K. Rowling penned the script.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the first installment of a new trilogy, is currently slated to hit theaters Nov. 18, 2016.
