Universal Pictures announced Thursday that a sequel to this year’s summer smash Jurassic World will hit theaters June 22, 2018.
Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will return to reprise their roles as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, respectively. Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly, who co-wrote Jurassic World, will pen the sequel. Steven Spielberg will also return to executive produce alongside Trevorrow, and Frank Marshall will produce. It is currently unknown who will direct the film, but it looks like Trevorrow, who directed Jurassic World, will not be helming the project.
“Jurassic Park is like Star Wars,” Trevorrow previously said. “Different directors can give a different taste to each movie.”
The news of a sequel is no surprise, considering Jurassic World has broken multiple box office records and has grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide, making it the third-highest grossing movie of all time.
