The creators of WikiLeaks, an online news source that leaks secret news from anonymous sources, have posted their disagreement with the upcoming film The Fifth Estate. The movie chronicles Julian Assange’s creation of WikiLeaks and how his website uses seemingly devious ways of obtaining information.
Assange posted the film’s script on his site as well as a point by point memo discouraging viewers to believe much of what is depicted in the film. The WikiLeaks founder asserts that many of the claims in the film are false, including the assertion that The Fifth Estate is the first film to depict the creation of WikiLeaks. The website called the movie “irresponsible, counterproductive and harmful.”
The Fifth Estate is directed by Bill Condon and hits theaters October 18. Benedict Cumberbatch plays the role of site founder Julian Assange.
