After years of getting nowhere, a biopic about the life of timeless comedian John Belushi has finally been revived.
The Animal House actor was one of Hollywood’s most iconic comedians when his life was cut short due to a drug overdose at the age of 33 back in 1982.
With Steven Conrad (Secret Life of Walter Mitty) producing, writing and directing, the film will surely have an indie mindset to it. There is no word on who will play the late comedian, but Adam Devine, Emile Hirsch and Joaquin Phoenix have reportedly show interest in the role. Nelson Franklin is expected to play the role of Dan Ackroyd, one of Belushi’s best friends.
Conrad plans for the biopic to tell the story of a man that embodied both the glory and the tragedy of the American dream as it focuses on Belushi at the height of his fame.
This isn’t the first attempt at bringing the comedian’s life to the big screen. Back in 1989, Michael Chiklis portrayed Belushi in the adaptation of Bob Woodwards book Wired, which ended up being boycotted by Belushi’s family and friends.
With Judy Belushi Pisano helping produce the movie, this project is promised to be different.
No word as to when the biopic will be released, but shooting will begin in spring of 2014.
