Jay-Z has teamed up with ad executive Steve Stoute, producer Brian Grazer and director Ron Howard to create a concert film about his Made In America music festival. The festival will take place in Philadelphia on Sept. 1 and 2.
The hip-hop music mogul will narrate the film as it captures some of the backstage preparations and performances for the music event.
“The festival showcases 20 pre-eminent artists that speak to the new generation,” Grazer told the New York Post. “I am producing the film with Steve Stoute and Jay. Ron is directing. It is going to be born through Jay-Z’s perspective . . . how he puts the event together.”
Some of the artists scheduled to appear at the two-day music extravaganza include Drake, Rita Ora, Calvin Harris, D’Angelo, Afrojack, Run-DMC, Odd Future, Pear Jam, Skrillex, Janelle Monae and Maybach Music Group artists Rick Ross, Wale and Philly native Meek Mill.
Jay-Z’s last concert film was 2004’s documentary Fade to Black, which chronicled his sold-out Madison Square Garden concert in 2003 before his “retirement” from the rap game.
“Jay-Z stayed the king for a very long time … I can’t even begin to explain how he is capable of remaining relevant,” said Grazer. “He is a phenom, like a musical Michael Jordan.”
