Jared Leto to Play Andy Warhol

Jared Leto is set to take on the role of pop art artist Andy Warhol in a new biopic.

The Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman and Michael De Luca are producing the film, titled Warhol. Terence Winter, who created Boardwalk Empire and wrote The Wolf of Wall Street, will pen the screenplay. The script will be based off of the book Warhol: The Biography by Victor Bockris.

Warhol was a popular artist during the 1960s who often use celebrities and popular brands in his art. Some of his most iconic art included paintings of Campbell’s soup cans, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, and Coca-Cola bottles. He was also known for being openly homosexual during a time when society wasn’t accepting of it.

Leto won an Oscar in 2013 for his role as a gay man in Dallas Buyers Club. He was most recently seen as the Joker in the summer blockbuster Suicide Squad and is slated to star in the upcoming Blade Runner sequel.
