James Bobin’s ‘Through The Looking Glass’ Begins Production

Disney has confirmed that the sequel to Tim Burton’s 2010 box office hit, Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass, will be starting principal photography this week.

However, this time around James Bobin (The Muppets) will be in the director’s chair, replacing Burton, with a script from the first film’s writer Linda Woolverton.

The full cast has been confirmed to return to reprise their roles in a story that “travels back to Underland and back in Time” – Mia Wasikoska as Alice, Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as Red Queen Iracebeth, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen Mirana, and Matt Lucas as Tweedledee and Tweedledum.

Other cast members returning in voice form include Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat, Alan Rickman as the Blue Caterpillar, Timothy Spall as Bayard, and Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit.

The fantasy sequel will be adding new cast members as well, which include Rhys Ifans as Zanik Hightopp (The Mad Hatter’s father) and Sacha Baron Cohen as Time.

While not as a director, Tim Burton will be returning as a producer for the upcoming film, along with several other individuals who worked with him on the first. Oscar-winner for the costumes on Alice in Wonderland, Colleen Atwood is a part of Through the Looking Glass, as is long-time Burton collaborator and award-winning composer Danny Elfman.

Disney’s Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass is scheduled to release May 27th, 2016.
