‘Iron Man’ Stays Strong, Beats ‘Gatsby’ in Box Office

Opening over the weekend, Baz Luhrmann’s anticipated version of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby opened to just over $50 million at the box office.

Iron Man 3, starring Robert Downey Jr., has made over $285 million at the box office.  Earning $72.5 million in its second week,  Iron Man 3 continues to prove that it is the film to beat for weeks to come.

Tyler Perry’s new comedy Peeples earned the #4 spot at the weekend box office.

Below is the top 10 list at the weekend box office:

1. Iron Man 3 – $72.5 million, $285 million gross

2. The Great Gatsby – $51.1 million

3. Pain & Gain – $5 million, $41.6 million

4. Peeples – $4.85 million

5. 42 – $4.65 million, $84.7 million gross

6. Oblivion – $3.86 million, $81.7 million gross

7. The Croods – $3.6 million, $173 million gross

8. The Big Wedding – $2.5 million, $18.3 million gross

9. Mud – $2.4 million, $8.45 million gross

10. Oz the Great and Powerful – $802 thousand, $230 million gross
