Ice Cube is attached to star in Universal Picture’s Humbug as Ebenezer Scrooge, according to Deadline.
The script, from writers Todd R. Jones and Earl Richey Jones, is a modern retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic tale A Christmas Carol, which is about Scrooge, the wealthy real estate mogul who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.
With director Tim Story on board, Cube will also join as producer beside Jeff Kwatinetz. Jones and Jones will co-produce.
Cube and Story collaborated in the past on 2002’s Barbershop, the box office hit which had two sequels following it, and a third debuting in April.
Barbershop 3, with director Malcolm D. Lee attached, stars Cube reprising his role as Calvin Palmer opposite Queen Latifah, Cedric the Entertainer, Nicki Minaj, Lamorne Morris, Eve, Anthony Anderson and Regina Hall.
The two also worked together on Universal’s Ride Along. The sequel, Ride Along 2, is set to release this January with Story directing and Cube and Kevin Hart co-starring.
