Seventeen years after the original film’s release, Sony Pictures has decided to reboot the 1997 teen slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard, who wrote 2013’s Oculus together, will be teaming together again to pen the script for the film. Neal Moritz, who produced the original film, will return to serve as producer.
The original film was based off a 1973 suspense novel by Lois Duncan and starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe. The film follows a group of friends who are stalked by a murderer after they cover up a deadly car accident. It went on to gross $125 million worldwide and had a sequel called I Still Know What You Did Last Summer released the following year, which grossed $84 million. It also had a direct-to-video sequel titled I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.
Sources say Sony would like to release the film in 2016.
