A Hollywood stuntman has plunged to his death in a freak parkour accident in Portugal.
Carlos Lopez, 25, died early Thursday morning outside of the Goodnight Hostel in downtown Lisbon when he reportedly attempted to jump from his fourth-floor window to a porch in another building around 4 a.m.
Lopez was a famous Hollywood stuntman from North Carolina known for his work in blockbuster films such as The Hunger Games, Olympus Has Fallen and recently just filmed stunts for The Nest starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, which comes out next year.
Reports say Lopez’s girlfriend witnessed the tragedy and immediately contacted emergency officials. His death has been ruled accidental by the police.
Lopez practiced the sport of Parkour which involves dangerous techniques of running, jumping, climbing and flipping efficiently from one point to another. In addition to his stuntman experience, Lopez also had twelve years of martial arts training and practiced Taekwondo.
Dale Girard, the director of the North Carolina Stuntmen’s Association, the organization where Lopez trained, described him as “a great friend… a formidable role model with great respect, discipline and personality. He was very caring, giving, and dedicated.”
