“The Hunger Games” was expected to have a big weekend at the box office.
Little did analysts figure that expected numbers would surpass predictions.
What is the estimated total for it’s opening weekend? The answer is a whopping $155 million!
This is the third best opening in North American box office history. Only “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” and “The Dark Knight” have had bigger opening weekends. Keep in mind that both of those were sequels in a strong series of films.
This also makes “The Hunger Games” the BIGGEST March opening for a movie ever.
Analysts were also comparing this movie to the “Twilight” films, given the young end demo of both. “Hunger Games” more than doubled the debut of that series.
This marks the strongest debut of any Lionsgate release, the studio that distributes “Hunger Games.” The next in the series, “Catching Fire,” is scheduled for a release date of November 22, 2013.
