Lionsgate Entertainment has announced that they will launch a U.S. tour of The Hunger Games: The Exhibition for the summer of 2015. If successful, this may lead to an actual Hunger Games theme park.
The exhibition, designed by Thinkwell Group, will be presented in major museums and institutions across the U.S. According to a press release, it will “include interactive displays of authentic costumes, props and other elements of the world of The Hunger Games.” The tour will incorporate artifacts that appeared in the first three films from locations within the Capitol and the various Districts of Panem.
“Now that we’ve built a critical mass of intellectual property, we’re committed to extending our brands into exciting new businesses that create opportunities for our fans to engage with our properties at the same time they deliver significant incremental financial benefits to Lionsgate,” said Lionsgate Chief Marketing Officer Tim Palen.
“We’re thrilled to launch this initiative with the U.S. tour of The Hunger Games exhibition,” continued Palen, “which celebrates the world of The Hunger Games and offers Hunger Games fans an extensive behind-the-scenes look at the movie-making process.”
Palen announced on Friday that Lionsgate have put Jenefer Brown of the Thinkwell Group to oversee the U.S. tour launch and to “explore additional theme park attraction and other location-based entertainment opportunities around the world.”
The exhibition tour will begin several months before the worldwide release of the fourth film, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 on November 20, 2015. It will serve as a promotional effort for the final film and will sell advanced tickets.
