How Will Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Death Affect ‘The Hunger Games’?

With the recent and tragic death of Philip Seymour Hoffman comes the question of how “The Hunger Games” film franchise will continue without him. Hoffman’s character as head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee was a huge driving force in last year’s “Catching Fire,” and his character plays an even more significant role in the final two films of the series.

Hoffman is said to have completed the majority of his scenes for the upcoming films, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” and “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2,” and the released dates for both are expected to remain stationary at Nov. 21, 2014 and Nov. 20, 2015.

Hoffman was said to have an estimated seven days of filming left, but according to one source, filmmakers will most likely be able work around that, possibly using “some creative CGI technology” to plug Hoffman into missing scenes.

Hoffman was found dead Sunday in his New York City apartment of an apparent drug overdose. He was 46.
