‘Harold and Kumar’ Return for Holiday Season

Harold and Kumar are back in time for the holiday season in A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas. Following the misadventures of Guantanamo Bay, this time the modern day Cheech and Chong are reunited in an outrageous night looking for a replacement of Harold’s father-in-law’s cherished Christmas tree. The clock is ticking as Harold and Kumar experience one mishap after another in searching for the perfect tree. Following the popular trend, this one is in 3D and taken to such gratuitous heights that is hilariously over the top – poking fun at 3D in general.

Danny Trejo joins the cast as Harold’s intimidating father-in-law who takes Christmas very seriously, bringing the entire extended family for a Christmas get together leaving Harold to decorate the house and tree. The film takes place long enough after the second installment to find the duo living separate lives typical for both of them. Kumar has a new roommate played by Amir Blumenfeld (The CollegeHumor Show) continuing to be a stay at home stoner with child-like ambitions. On the other hand, Harold has married Maria (Paula Garcés) and is living the grown-up lifestyle. They are all brought together including Harold’s new friend (Thomas Lennon from Reno 911!) when Kumar visits Harold to deliver a mysterious package addressed to Harold that showed up on Kumar’s doorstep.

Fans of the other films will find A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas hilarious, missing full lines of dialogue from the uncontrollable laughter that results in the unrelenting raunchy humor. The film accomplishes the feat of being even more raunchy than the other two films, being squeamishly ridiculous giving the only option to laugh out loud. The film also does the others justice by providing the return of Neil Patrick Harris, who explains the “real” intention of publicly coming out of the closet along with singing a Christmas musical number that brings to mind old Christmas classics. Another scene that has the film outdoing itself is a claymation drug sequence, other drugs are added into this one to make it a very “White Christmas.”

Other cast members include Patton Oswalt, Elias Koteas, Richard Riehle, and RZA, with Bobby Lee, Eddie Kaye Thomas, and David Krumholtz reprising their roles as Kenneth Park, Rosenberg, and Goldstein respectively. This provides more laughs with the unpredictability of new characters, as well as the familiarity with characters from the earlier films. The audience is in for a jolly good time that could become the best raunchy Christmas favorite since Bad Santa.

A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas opens in theaters everywhere today.
