After racking up film credits with small movie roles, Green Day star Billie Joe Armstrong has earned his first major role.
The Green Day frontman is set to star in a feature film, “Like Sunday, Like Rain,” starring opposite of “Gossip Girl” actress Leighton Meester. The punk rocker will play the boyfriend of Meester’s character, a struggling musician who becomes the guardian of a 12-year-old music prodigy. “Like Sunday, Like Rain” will be directed by actor Frank Whaley.
The Green Day co-founder has appeared in movies “Riding in Cars With Boys” and Judd Apatow’s “This Is 40,” and also made a theatrical appearance on Broadway in the Green Day musical “American Idiot.” Armstrong is expected to make an appearance in “Anchorman: The Legend Continues” this December.
Filming for “Like Sunday, Like Rain” is already underway in New York.
