In a recent interview with BackstageOL’s Jake Hamilton of “Jake’s Takes”, Tom Hanks was sporting a new look for his upcoming film Saving Mr. Banks. In the film Hanks will portray Walt Disney as he is trying to secure the rights to P.L. Traver’s Mary Poppins.
Saving Mr. Banks began filming on September 19 in Los Angeles and will include filming at Disneyland in Anaheim and at the Disney Studios in Burbank before wrapping up around Thanksgiving.
Mary Poppins is considered to be Walt’s favorite film. The 1964 musical would score big at the box office and win five Oscars, including best actress (Julie Andrews), original score and song (“Chim-Chim-Cher-ee”).
The upcoming film is being directed by John Lee Hancock (“The Blind Side,” “The Rookie”) and is expected to be released on December 20, 2013.
