The Skeleton Twins has just released its first trailer!
The film, which first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, stars Bridesmaid’s Kristen Wiig and her Saturday Night Live co-star Bill Hader. It is produced by Mark Duplass, who starred in director Craig Johnson’s 2009 debut feature True Adolescents.
EW’s Jeff Labrecque illustrated how The Skeleton Twins is “a full-on drama” where Wiig and Hader “play Maggie and Milo, twins who used to be close but now live on different sides of the country. Neither is particular happy with their lives, and when they both narrowly avoid death on the same day, they end up reuniting and confronting the issues that have kept them apart.”
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bill Hader reiterated how the film is not a comedy, but much heavier. “It’s a very sweet movie, but it’s not anything like an SNL movie or the comedies we’ve been in,” he explains.
“It’s not like a comedy-comedy. Especially the beginning of it. The first time I saw it, I brought some of my friends who didn’t know anything about it, and they were like, ‘Oh yeah, pretty different.’”
The official movie synopsis:
When estranged twins Maggie (Kristen Wiig) and Milo (Bill Hader) feel they’re at the end of their ropes, an unexpected reunion forces them to confront why their lives went so wrong. As the twins reconnect, they realize the key to fixing their lives may just lie in repairing their relationship.
Luke Wilson will star alongside Wiig and Hader, playing Wiig’s husband.
The Skeleton Twins opens September 12, 2014. Check out the trailer below!
