The woman who made Leonardo DiCaprio grovel in The Wolf of Wall Street and played a delightful Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad looks to have transformed her appearance for an upcoming movie about Tonya Harding.
Yes, Tonya Harding – the disgraced figure skater.
Looking totally ’90s with high-waisted jeans and a blonde wig, not to mention some facial prosthetics and a body suit, Robbie bears a striking resemblance to Harding, a woman whose jealously got the best of her leading up to the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. For the United States, all eyes were on Nancy Kerrigan. The ice princess was the victim of a brutal assault instigated by Harding and involving a hit-man. Kerrigan’s cries of “Why?” would leave an indelible impression and the event would make national headlines.
The film is titled I, Tonya and will revolve around Harding’s training for the Olympics before her ex-husband, Jeff Gilloly (played by Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s Sebastian Stan), tries to sabotage Kerrigan.
This story behind the story is directed by Craig Gilespie, whose previous films include Million Dollar Arm, Lars and the Real Girl and most recently The Finest Hours. Alison Janney has a supporting role as Tonya’s mother, LaVona Harding.
I, Tonya is expected in theaters in 2018.
