‘Fast & Furious’ Speeds to No. 1 at Weekend Box Office

The sixth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise dominated the Memorial Day weekend box office with a $122 million debut, leaving The Hangover Part III in the dust.  Epic earned $44 million, just shy of the earnings of Star Trek Into Darkness.  The animated kids film The Croods is still going strong after 10 weeks, already earning over $180 million domestically. Iron Man 3 has made over $373 million and is expected to pass the $400 million mark next week.  Oblivion clings onto the number 10 spot.

Here is the complete top 10 list from Memorial Day weekend:

1. Fast & Furious 6 – $122 million

2. The Hangover Part III – $51 million (weekend), $62.5 million gross

3. Star Trek Into Darkness – $48 million (weekend), $157 million gross

4. Epic – $44 million

5. Iron Man 3 – $24.6 million (weekend), $373 million gross

6. The Great Gatsby – $17.2 million (weekend), $118 million gross

7. Mud – $2.5 million (weekend), $15.2 million gross

8. The Croods – $1.61 million, $180 million gross

9. 42 – $1.6 million (weekend), $91.4 million gross

10. Oblivion – $1.05 million (weekend), $87.5 million gross
