‘Fast & Furious’ Director Justin Lin to Take the Wheel of ‘Hot Wheels’ Film

Justin Lin, known for directing multiple films in The Fast & The Furious Franchise and most recently Star Trek Beyond, will helm the upcoming Hot Wheels film that is based off of the Mattel toy automobiles.

A Hot Wheels film project has been discussed since 2003, and Legendary Pictures was in negotiation to get the rights from Mattel to make a film in 2011. The film is currently in the early stages of development. Lin’s Perfect Storm Entertainment will develop and produce it for Legendary Pictures. Lin, partner Troy Craig Poon, and Legendary are currently searching for a writer for the project. Plot details are currently unknown.

Lin has many projects in the works, including a television crime drama inspired by Bruce Lee called Warrior and a sequel to Space Jam.
