A few days ago, Disney announced it had pulled the plug on a third installment to the Tron film series. Many fans were disappointed with the news, but one decided to start a petition with hopes of reviving the film.
Fan Lucas Lowman put up the petition on Change.org and said:
Tron: Legacy grossed over 400 million dollars and helped more fully realize the world created in the original Tron. It’s a shame that Disney has elected not to move forward with a third Tron film as the universe is ripe to be explored. Sign this petition so that we may show Disney that The Grid is too great to never be shown again and to prove that Flynn lives.
Currently, over 16,000 people have signed the petition. Lowman’s goal is to have 25,000 signatures. However, the petition is unlikely to change Disney’s mind.
Preparation for Tron 3 had already begun and production seemed like it would commence this fall. Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund were set to reprise their roles from 2010’s Tron Legacy and director Joseph Kosinski was also going return. However, the film was never officially greenlit. Disney did not reveal why it decided to cancel the project.
