Winter the Dolphin is coming back with a new friend, Hope the Dolphin, for the upcoming sequel Dolphin Tale 2 ! Alcon Entertainment officially announced that a sequel to the 2011 film would be made. Dolphin Tale centered on the true-story friendship between an 11-year old boy and Winter the dolphin, whose tail was lost in a crab trap. The original film grossed $94.5 million worldwide.
The sequel will tell another true story inspired by the life of Winter and introduces a new baby dolphin named Hope, who was rescued by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in 2010.
The original cast which included Harry Connick Jr, Ashley Judd, Morgan Freeman and Kris Kristofferson are also on board to return.
Dolphin Tale 2 is set for a release date of September 19, 2014.
