Disney’s ‘Planes’ Gets a Release Date!

Take a trip this summer with Disney’s new animated film Planes.

“From high above the world of Cars,” comes Planes, an upcoming spin-off from the world of Cars.  While Cars was produced by Pixar Animation Studios,  Planes will be produced by DisneyToon Studios who are best known for direct-to-dvd films such as The Return of Jafar, The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, and Tinker Bell.

“We had such a great time exploring the world of Cars over the course of two films, so it seemed only natural for us to see where our imaginations would take us in a film where planes were the main characters,” Walt Disney Animations Studio Chief Creative Office John Lasseter said of the film.

Planes is about a big-hearted, fast-flying crop duster named Dusty who dreams of competing in the most exhilarating around-the-world air race in history.  Of course their is a slight problem… Dusty is not exactly built for racing and he happens to be afraid of heights.

“By expanding the Cars world, Planes gave us a whole new set of fun-filled situations and a great opportunity to introduce some fantastic new characters. The team at DisneyToon Studios has done such an amazing job creating a heartfelt story filled with great comedy, adventure, and emotion.” Lasseter added.

Originally the voice of Dusty, as heard in the film’s trailer, was recorded by Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men), but he has since dropped out of the project.  It is unknown who will voice Dusty.

The rest of the cast includes Stacy Keach (Titus/Prison Break) as Skipper, Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond) as Chug and Carlos Alazraqui (Reno 911!)as El Chupacabra.

Planes is scheduled to take flight into theaters on August 9, 2013!
