Disney Planning Live-Action Reboot of ‘The Jungle Book’

Continuing a rhythm of remake movie releases, Disney is planning another variation of the famous animated musical The Jungle Book. Disney previously adapted The Jungle Book into a live-action movie in 1994; however, the original 1967 animated film remains the most famous version.

The project is only in the early stages of development.  Disney has hired screenwriter Justin Marks, who wrote the upcoming sci-fi thriller The Raven, to write the script and has begun exploration for a director.

The movie will center on Mowgli, a “mancub” who is raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. His friends will include a bear, Baloo, and a panther, Bagheera, while a vicious tiger Shere Khan is among his enemies.

While Disney plans the return of Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale to the big screen, a rival The Jungle Book movie is already in the works at Warner Bros.
