Walt Disney Pictures is rearranging its release calender for Maleficent, The Good Dinosaur and Finding Dory in order to reduce flooding an already busy summer 2014 with the addition of the World Cup. Mega-blockbusters Transformers 4 and Fast & Furious 7 are already on the slate to be released, in addition to RoboCop, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Captain America: Winter Soldier.
Based on the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty, Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent has been moved forward five weeks to May 30, 2014, as opposed to July 2. The move takes Pixar’s only release for the year, The Good Dinosaur, off the 2014 schedule (previously scheduled for May 30, 2014) and moves it to November 24, 2015. The long-awaited Finding Nemo sequel, Finding Dory, was originally planned for a November 2015 release. Since, The Good Dinosaur moved to its previous spot, Finding Dory will be pushed back to a June 17, 2016 release in 3D.
Other changes to the Walt Disney schedule include Wikileaks biopic The Fifth Estate getting upgraded to a wide release on October 18th and Kevin Costner’s high school track film McFarland grabbing a November 21, 2014 release date.
