During a shareholders meeting on Tuesday, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that both The Incredibles 2 and Cars 3 are in the works.
News of an Incredibles sequel had stemmed from the announcement that the original film will be released in theaters in 3-D relatively soon. While few details were shared on the matter, Iger stated that The Incredibles director, Brad Bird, is currently working on a story for the sequel.
Other than confirming a third installment to the Cars franchise, Iger did not elaborate much further. News of the film was first disclosed in October of last year when one of the voice actors revealed that the project was in development.
Both The Incredibles and Cars are two of Pixar’s biggest hits. With The Incredibles having brought in $631 million worldwide and the Cars franchise with over $1 billion, it’s no surprise the studio has decided to bring them back to life.
However, fans will have to wait until 2018 or 2020 for the films to hit theaters since Pixar is booked for the next three years with The Good Dinosaur, Inside Out, and Finding Dory.
