Diane Keaton to Receive AFI Life Achievement Award

The American Film Institute announced Thursday that Diane Keaton will receive the 45th AFI Life Achievement Award. Keaton will be the ninth woman to receive the prestigious award.

“Diane Keaton is one of the most beloved leading ladies of American film,” Sir Howard Stringer, chairman of the AFI board of trustees, said in a statement. “Peerless in her mastery of both comedy and drama, she has won the world’s heart time and again by creating characters of both great strength and vulnerability. Her career as a director and producer is even further evidence of her passion for the art form and her seemingly boundless talents.”

Keaton is an Oscar-winning actress and has had numerous memorable roles in films such as Annie Hall, Reds, The Godfather, Something’s Gotta Give, Marvin’s Room, and Looking for Mr. Goodbar. Recently, she voiced a character in Finding Dory and stars in the television series The Young Pope, which will premiere on HBO in 2017.

Keaton will receive the reward on June 8, 2017 in Los Angeles. A special tribute to the actress will air on TNT with encore presentations shown on TCM.
