The Minions are getting their own film! That’s right, Universal Pictures has confirmed a December 2014 release date for their upcoming ‘Despeicable Me’ spin-off.
The Untitled Minions Project In 3D is being written by Brian Lynch (Puss in Boots) and is being headed by The Lorax co-director Kyle Balda and Despicable Me director Pierre Coffin. The official release date for the film is Friday, December 19, 2014.
Universal Pictures is currently in post-production of their upcoming film Despicable Me 2 due for a July 3, 2013 release. Steve Carell, Russell Brand, Miranda Cosgrove and Kristen Wiig will reprise their roles while newcomer Al Pacino will play Gru’s nemesis. Steve Coogan is currently credited in a yet to be named role.
The 2010 animated film Despicable Me opened number one at the box office on July 9, 2010 and received positive reviews from critics. The film would go on to gross over $543 million worldwide on a budget of only $69 million, making it the tenth-highest-grossing animated film of all-time in North America.
