Daniel Day-Lewis Texted as Lincoln During Filming

Daniel Day-Lewis is known for his immense dedication to method acting for whichever role he takes on.  From his portrayal as Christy Brown in My Left Foot to Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood, one could not agree more with the success of this process.  In the latest issue of Time magazine, the publication featured a story on “How the Greatest Living Actor Became Lincoln”.

According to the article, Sally Fields (who plays his wife and confidant, Mary Todd Lincoln) would receive text messages from Daniel Day-Lewis in character as Lincoln.

“I’d hear that twinkle-twinkle on my phone, and he would have sent me some ridiculous limerick. He’d sign it, ‘Yours, A.’ I would text back as Mary, criticizing him for the waste of his time when he might have been pursuing something more productive,” says Fields.

It may be found a bit odd that the actor would take his acting to the extreme of staying in character while doing such miniscule task such as texting.   While some people question his methods,  I find it hard to criticize the two time Academy Award winning Best Actor.

He must be doing something right.
