Dan Brown Releasing New Book ‘Inferno’; Movie to Follow?

American publisher Doubleday has announced that Dan Brown is set to release his new book Inferno on May 14.  The Da Vinci Code author had teased in May 2012 that he was writing a new novel but details had been scarce.

Inferno will feature lead character Robert Langford as he’s “drawn into a harrowing world centered on one of history’s most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces,”  Dante Alighieri’s 14th-century poem Inferno.  Langford is the same character that The Da Vinci CodeAngels and Demons and The Lost Symbol is centered on.

Does this mean a fourth film based on Dan Brown’s character Robert Langford is in the works?

The determining factor on whether Inferno makes it to the big screen likely depends on  The Lost Symbol‘s box office success.   The script for the upcoming film is currently being written by Danny Strong (HBO’s Game Change) and is expected to feature Tom Hanks reprising his role as Robert Langford.

Tom Hanks has portrayed Langford in both of Brown’s films, 2006’s The Da Vinci Code and 2009’s Angel & Demons.  Both films became box office successes when The Da Vinci Code made an astonishing $758 million at the worldwide box office while 2009’s Angel & Demons brought in a respectable $485 million.

There is no official word on when The Lost Symbol, let alone Inferno, will be released in theaters.
