Crowded Field For ‘Best Animated Feature’ Oscar Race

The category for Best Animated Feature is by far going to be one of the most anticipated categories at the 86th Academy Awards.

Nineteen films are being considered for the Best Animated Feature category. Some of the films that are currently competing against each other include Frozen, The Croods, Despicable Me 2, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 and Planes.

The list of entries also include foreign films such Japanese animations Letters to Momo and Hayao Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises, South Africa’s Khumba, Brazil’s Rio: 2096 A Story of Love and Fury, Canada’s The legend of Sarlia, and South Korea’s The Fake.

While all of the films have been submitted, several have yet to have their required Los Angeles qualifying runs. According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science, in order for the category to be activated at least eight eligible animated films must be theatrically released in Los Angeles County within the calendar year.

The 86th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 16,2014 and the awards ceremony will take place on March 2, 2014.
