Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin spilled details about their directorial debut for upcoming film Dog, their experience working with trained military animals and much more in our latest interview with Dave Morales.
Unraveling the Story of ‘Dog’
This heartfelt story follows Army Rangers Briggs (Tatum) and Lulu (a Belgian Malinois dog) who are involuntarily paired together to attend a fellow soldier’s funeral. Along the way, the unlikely duo embarks on a crazy adventure like no other. With trust in question, will they develop a strong bond?
Carolin shared his thoughts on the film’s heart of the story. “We saw when we were telling these guys’ story is how thin the line was between animal and human. Also, how close their bonds were. These soldiers stopped looking at a dog as an animal, they really looked at it as a fellow soldier,” he said. “We wanted to give people a window into that world.”
Working with Trained K-9s on Set
Working with animals in a movie is always an eventful experience. Not all actors can go unscathed. Unfortunately, Tatum and Carolin were some of the unlucky ones. “I definitely got bit; Reid got bit. I still have a little smiley face scar on my butt,” Tatum said. “I think I played keep away a little too long and she was like alright I’m going to bite you in the butt instead. So I have a bite and she took a chunk out of Reid’s stomach at some point when he was playing slap hands with her.”
Tatum continued on to share good things about his fellow K-9 co stars’ abilities while filming. “During the fight scene, she was such a good actress that she literally just jumped up and clasped her teeth like almost inches from my face,” he added. “These dogs are incredible. Their control is so incredible. Also, the trainers that we worked with were beyond anything I could have expected on any scale.”
Dog is officially out in theaters February 18. To watch out full interview, click below!
