Yes its true! Anne Hathaway confessed in a recent interview with BackstageOL’s Jake Hamilton (Jake’s Takes) of her dislike of cats.
Hathaway plays the role of Selina Kyle aka “Catwoman” in the upcoming Christopher Nolan film The Dark Knight Rises. The role was previously played by Michelle Pfeiffer in the 1992 film Batman Returns and Halle Berry in 2004’s Catwoman.
When asked what classic attribute of Catwoman she was happy to leave behind, Hathaway replied, “I was happy that I didn’t have any scenes with cats, just because they are very difficult to work with.”
This is the first time director Christopher Nolan has incorporated the character of Catwoman into his Batman franchise.
“Chris [Nolan] found a way to show that [Catwoman] has a sense of humor but that she is also a very, very dark person,” said Hathaway. “She is someone that can tell a joke on the run.”
Ironically, Hathaway thought she was going to read for the role of Harley Quinn, not Selina Kyle, when asked to meet with director Christopher Nolan.
“I had worked out a giggle and a skit [for the role of Harley Quinn],” Anne admitted. “Our first sit down was about two hours and after the first hour [Nolan] said ‘You got the role and it’s Catwoman.’ I was like ‘aww fudge.’ I completely changed my attack from this really hyper, intense energy to really laid back and very slinky.”
The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters Friday July 20th.
