Actress Cate Blanchett will play Lucille Ball in an authorized biopic that is being produced by her two children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr., along with Escape Artists (Southpaw).
Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, Moneyball, and the upcoming Steve Jobs) will pen the script, which will center on the life of the iconic actress, including her 20-year marriage to Desi Arnaz, the former Cuban band leader. The two eloped in 1940 after meeting while shooting a movie, they had two children before filing for divorce in 1960.
Ball, who starred on TV sitcoms I Love Lucy, The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour, The Lucy Show, Here’s Lucy and Life with Lucy, was nominated for 13 Emmys and won a total of four times.
Jenna Block will oversee the project for Escape Artists. Currently, there is no director attached to the film.
Blanchett was recently seen in Cinderella and Carol; her upcoming features include Dan Rather’s biopic Truth and Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups.
